1. What is the Jacob Fontain Scholarship Program?
The Jacob Fontaine Memorial Scholarship Program was
started September of 2000 under the leadership of Pastor McQueen, with Sister Olphia
Curtis as coordinator. Through this program St. Stephens is seeking to motivate
students to a higher educational level by offering financial support.
2. Who can
Participate?
A graduating high school student who ...
•has an overall high school GPA of 2.0
•plans to attend an accredited, two or four-year
college, state, university, or private school.
AND
•student must maintain passing grades (as defined by
the university or college they are attending).
•maintain a minimum of twelve hours per semester.
3. What is the Amount of the Jacob Font
Scholarship?
The scholarship will consist of a $1500.00 award per
semester for one student for a total of four years. The student receiving this
scholarship will not receive the $300.00 Lillian Robinson scholarship from St.
Stephens currently awarded to all graduating seniors. The scholarship will be
applied toward the cost of tuition, fees and books. If the cost of the items
listed total less than $1500, the award will be for that total cost.
4. What are the Award Guidelines for the Jacob
Fontaine Scholarship?
1. The
cost of books and tuition will be paid up to a maximum of $1500.00. The
scholarship does not cover the cost of room and board.
2. The
scholarship will be forwarded to the school with the recipient’s Name, Address,
SSN, Student ID and a copy of the award letter.
3. The
student must use the scholarship funds no later than the second semester after
the presentation of the award.
4. If
the student is unable to accept the scholarship, the 1st place runner up (selected from the original list of
applicants) will receive the award.
5. St.
Stephens will not award the scholarship to students receiving other
scholarships that cover books, tuition and fees.
6. The
recipient of the scholarship will be announced during mid August.
5. What is the Eligibili Criteria?
1. The
applicant must submit an essay consisting of no more than 200 words, discussing
his / her education and career goals. Explain why you deserve this scholarship.
2. The
applicant must be a current year high school graduate.
3. The
applicant must be in good and regular
standing with St. Stephens MBC by regularly
participating in the following:
• attend church
on a Sunday by Sunday basis
• attend church school
• attend bible
study
• must participate in St. Stephens ministries.
4. The
applicant must include all pertinent information including community
participation, school activities, and high school transcript. All of this
information must be submitted with the scholarship application.
5. Applicant
must include two letters of recommendation.
6. Applicant
must have been a member of St. Stephens at the time of graduation.
7. The
applicant applying for the scholarship must be attending college for the l~
time.
8. The
recipient must submit proof of enrollment from the college he / she will be
attending.
